It sure is the time of year for plenty of holiday parties! Between Christmas and New Year’s Eve I am constantly looking for new appetizer recipes. Today, my inspiration comes from a recipe my mother in law made at our rehearsal dinner for Chlebicky. They are open faced sandwiches that come with cheese, strong garlic, and tomatoes.
Simple and pretty! Everyone loved them. This gave me the idea to recreate something fresh for the holidays that would be simple, come together fast since all know this season can be so busy! Mini Open Faced sandwiches that come with tomato, avocado, and cucumber along with Boursin® Garlic and Fine Herbs Cheese. Super simple to make and perfect for any party year round.
Mini Open Faced Sandwiches can really be topped with anything. They are also known as Chlebicky, Smørrebrød, or Smörgås. The name and toppings change depending on where in the world you are located. For instance, in the Scandinavian region it would be topped with salmon but in Czech you would have garlic, potato salad, and even caviar. My favorite is a mayo garlic sauce with cheese and tomatoes.
I like to make them simple and top with a good cheese like Boursin® which they have the Garlic and Fine Herbs Cheese and the Monterey Jack & Spicy Pepper Cheese Dip. Monterey Jack & Spicy Pepper Cheese Dip can be used and topped with pickled red onions and avocado!
For this recipe, I went with the Garlic and Fine Herbs Cheese because the flavor is delicious and pairs very well with vegetables and of course a side glass of wine. A good white wine is great with this cheese but for my husband he likes his red wine. Both seem to pair well depending on what you like. It is so easy to find to in the cooler near the deli in the bunker at Walmart.
