About two weeks ago my husband and I got a chance to sit down and have dinner at Mellow Mushroom. The first time I visited I wasn’t impressed so I had to go back and be open when doing this review. This time I knew I had to try something different and off the wall like their menu is. I wasn’t sure if I was going to try one of their new burgers like the Fully Blazed which comes with cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, tomato, jalapeño and chipotle spread. Just need to add a little bacon there.
They also have two other new burgers on the menu. Primo Pub: Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, romaine lettuce, tomato, pickles and garlic aioli spread. Goin’ Cali: Cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, tomato, sweet onions and avocado lime spread. You know though their was just one pizza I had to try. The red skin potato pie! This is like my heaven in a pizza. I am so glad the server talked me into it. My husband got the house special on half of the pizza and I got the red skin potato pie on the other half. I swear the red skin potato pie is like on my top three of pizza’s to eat. It has all of my favorites.
We also tried the Muffuletta Cheese Bread. My husband is not a fan of olives but I am. I told him we had to try it. I fell in love of course but what surprised me, olives and all, he said it was too good! He loves the pizza dough and bread dough at Mellow Mushroom. He says it’s all about the dough. I have to agree. You can put any topping you want but if the dough isn’t good then meh! The red skin potato pie comes with olive oil & garlic base with sliced roasted red potatoes, Applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Garnished with chives then drizzled with sour cream & spicy ranch dressing. The only thing I would change is add fresh red onion to the top.
Most of all, the service was spot on! The lovely young server that is recently married talked with us and helped us pick from the menu. Her husband, the cook, also visited with us and gave us a few ideas on where to find our wedding bands for our upcoming ceremony. He had a really neat wedding band made from whiskey wood.
Over all our experience was better then the first time we visited and we will be going back. I have to mention I loved how they have seasonal draft beers. This is another reason for me to go back and have a seasonal brew with a slice of red skin potato pie.
