Last year, I created a few coffee cups with some writing on them at the holiday season that starred along with Bigelow tea. They were perfect gifts for friends and teachers. This year I wanted to do something a little different for a close friend of mine. She has been going through a bit of rough time with her parents being sick and just in general encouragement is nice. I was looking for a gift that I could create myself and something that would keep on giving through out the year. What came to mind was a DIY Encouragement Cup Gift.
The idea behind the cup is to pass it around through my family and have each and everyone of them write one word of encouragement for her. Then through out the year as she uses the cup for Bigelow tea, soups, and more she can feel those words of encouragement shine through.
I grabbed up a cup and saucer locally. This is can be any cup or saucer as long as it is white as it shows the the sharpie paint pens the best. I picked up two paint pens in gold and black. I know these are colors she would enjoy. Then I went to Walmart to pick out some tea to fill the cup with.
You know I can’t just give an empty cup. It’s against the foodie way! On the aisle for hot chocolates and teas I picked up the Bigelow Pumpkin Spice Tea. Pumpkin for me isn’t just seasonal. It has a warm holiday effect that I like to share with my friends through out the year. Yes, I have a massive stock of it in my pantry. Who wouldn’t? 😉
Take the cup and let everyone write an encouraging word on it along with the saucer plate too. Alternate the colors per the words for an elegant effect.
Bake dishes at 350 degrees for 20 minutes to set paint. Be sure put the dishes in when the oven is heating up and remove them only once the oven has fully cooled. This will help them from breaking or cracking. You can always use fingernail polish remove to fix any mistakes.
Stuff them with streamers and tea then wrap it all up in a cello bag. It’s the cutest gift that is inexpensive and keeps on giving through out the entire year. Great for friends, family, and even people in your community you would like to thank. Good for year round gifts also! I’d love to hear what encouraging words you would use on the cup and what Bigelow tea you would pair it with!
